J!UG 2012, Multi-Site design and looking at J! 2.5

Wednesday, January 18, 2012, 6:30 PM

Detroit Public Library

Some of you may know that I took a full time job as the webmaster for Marygrove college last year. Well, it has been 9 months, 10 Joomla! sites, 6 Wordpress Bogs, and a bunch of social media web services later... and they are starting to integrate as a cohesive effort.

In this meetup, we are going to team up with Refresh Detroit to have a demonstration and discussion of multi-site CMS web design.

More info below, oh ya... and we will talk about Joomla! 2.5...

Last month we had no real agenda at all, and it turned out pretty darn good I think.  So I intend to run headlong into the same experiment again.  Come with a web project or problem to share and we will field as many as we can and try to involve the group conversation.

Otherwsite I will come with a couple of components to show off...

Comparison Spreadsheet

There was also mention of a comparison spreadsheet online for all of the Joomla! CCKs out there.  I did some mild mannererd googling, and came up with it here.

Here is the original forum post.

User Reviews

Want to see how these CCKs stack up on the user reviews, many of them are in the Joomla! Extention Directory.

We are teaming up with another local user group, Refresh Detroit.  Come out and meet a wider variety of Detroit area web professionals and entrepreneurs.

http://refresh-detroit.org/

I will attempt to inform the Refresh Detroit as to where Joomla! fits in within the grander discussion of web design and how it compares to other open source projects.

Here is a little bit about Refresh Detroit from their website...

Refresh Detroit is a part of the Refreshing Cities organization. We are a group of web professionals whose goal is to promote web standards, usability, and accessibility, and to spread the knowledge of web design in the Detroit and Ann Arbor Michigan areas.
